I am unable to create a folder to download an audiobook in OverDrive Media Console

Answer

We recommend that customers download the current version of the OverDrive app instead of using OverDrive Media Console, which is no longer supported. The current app is called Libby and available in several formats through links on our webpage.

The "An error occurred while attempting to download Part 1 of [title]. Unable to create the local folder needed to create . . ." message typically indicates that the specified download location either does not exist or OverDrive Media Console does not have permission to write to the location. To resolve this issue, reset the download location in OverDrive Media Console to its default setting by following these steps.

For WMA Audiobook titles:

  1. If the title is displayed in OverDrive Media Console, delete it by selecting the title and clicking the 'Delete' button.
  2. In OverDrive Media Console, go to Tools > Options
The 'Options' dialog box is displayed.
  3. In the 'Browse for Folder' dialog box, navigate to My Documents > My Media.
  4. Select the folder 'WMA Audiobook' and click 'OK' to close the 'Browse for Folder' dialog box.
  5. Click 'OK' to exit the 'Options' dialog box.
  6. Sign in to your library account and attempt the download again.

For WMA Music titles:

  4. Select the folder 'WMA Music' and click 'OK' to close the 'Browse for Folder' dialog box.
  5. Click 'OK' to exit the 'Options' dialog box.
  6. Sign in to your library account and attempt the download again.

For WMV titles:

  1. If the title is displayed in OverDrive Media Console, delete it by selecting the title and clicking the 'Delete' button.
  2. In OverDrive Media Console, go to Tools > Options
The 'Options' dialog box is displayed.
  3. In the 'Options' dialog box, under the heading 'Format', locate 'Video' and select it. Then, click the 'Browse' button.
The 'Browse for Folder' dialog box is displayed. Navigate to My Documents > My Media.
  4. Select the folder 'WMV Videos (standard)' and click 'OK' to close the 'Browse for Folder' dialog box.
  5. Click 'OK' to exit the 'Options' dialog box.
  6. Sign in to your account and attempt the download again.

If this does not work, manually choose a new location to save titles to in step 4 by clicking "Browse" and navigating to the desired folder. Make sure you have administrative access to this folder.
