An item I want is at a different Public Library branch. How do I get it sent to my branch?

Answer

You can place a hold on most items through our catalog (excluding reference items) and have it delivered to the library that's most convenient for you. This process usually takes a few days, and the library sends you a notice when the item is ready for you. If other customers have the book on hold there may be a longer wait to receive the item.

To place a hold on a title:

  1. Log in to My Account from the catalogs in the library or the library's online catalog.
  2. Search for the item or topic you need.
  3. Do one of the following:

    • From the Search Results page or the Title Details page, find the item you want to place on hold and click Place Hold.
    • From the Search Results page, use the checkboxes to select multiple items and click Place Hold(s) from the Select an Action drop-down list. This option may not be available on mobile screens.

Note: If you are not logged in to your library account, choosing the Place Hold option prompts you to log in.

  4. From the window that displays, select the pickup library from the drop-down list.
  5. Click Place Hold.

A message displays that tells you whether or not the hold was successfully placed.
